When Your Money Feels Too Messy or Beyond Hope: 4 Money Myths Debunked

I’ve had some interesting conversations over the past few years.

Someone once told me they wanted help with their money—but felt they needed to get better at managing it first. Another person said they wished they’d found me sooner because they’d made so many poor decisions their situation felt unrecoverable.

Finally, someone told me, “This is just how life always is. I don’t think it’s going to change for me.”

My response to each of them was simple:

“I can help you.”

If you’ve ever felt this way, you’re not alone. Let’s talk about four money myths that keep so many people stuck.

Myth #1: “I need to get better at money first.”

This is one of my favorites.

Sometimes people feel embarrassed about their messy finances, and think they need to get organized before they can get coaching. But this is exactly where coaching shines.

Often, the reason your money feels chaotic is because:

  • You don’t have systems in place

  • Or the systems you do have aren’t practical or sustainable for your life

Part of coaching is creating personalized systems that actually work for you. The other part is having support and troubleshooting when those systems fall apart (because… they will).

I’ve seen it all. Come messy. That’s what this space is for.

Myth #2: “It’s too late.”

Ask anyone who’s ever received an allowance or a paycheck if they’ve made money mistakes, and every single person will say yes.

You are not the only one who’s ever made poor decisions.

In fact, some people have made even worse choices than you—and still recovered. Not because they got lucky or someone bailed them out, but because they started exactly where they were and took small steps forward.

Coaching helps you:

  • Understand where you are

  • Clarify where you want to go

  • Create a plan to get there

It’s never too late to start.

Myth #3: “I’ve always been bad with money—and I always will be.”

At one time, you were probably bad at walking or riding a bike, too. You got better by not giving up and by practicing consistently.

The same is true for money.

If you only look at your past to predict your future, you set yourself up to repeat the same patterns.

There’s a reason your rearview mirror is small compared to your windshield. We’re only meant to glance back to learn—not to keep beating ourselves up.

Focus on the next small step:

  • Check your bank balance regularly

  • Set up a simple budget

  • Track one spending category

Even small changes can start to shift your trajectory.

Myth #4: “The world is against me.”

It’s easy to feel like your situation is out of your control.

But when we give all our power away, we lose the ability to respond.

Remember: Responsibility = response-ability.

If you spend your energy waiting for someone to save you—or blaming everything outside yourself—it steals time you could be using to build a better future.

If you need help imagining what that future could look like, I’m here to help.

You Are Not Beyond Help

There are a lot of false beliefs about money that keep good people stuck. These are just a few.

If you’re holding on to one of these stories—or any story that’s keeping you from moving forward—I’d love to help you get unstuck.

Together, we can:

  • Create systems that work for you

  • Shift your mindset

  • Build the confidence to reach your full potential

You don’t have to do this alone. Let’s go!
